Getting started
New to Ecopyright? Start here.
What is Ecopyright? +
Ecopyright is an independent digital witness for copyright ownership. We generate a timestamped, blockchain-anchored, court-recognized certificate that proves you created a specific work on a specific date. Used by writers, musicians, designers, photographers, filmmakers and developers worldwide.
Who is Ecopyright for? +
Independent creators (authors, musicians, photographers, illustrators, designers, developers, filmmakers), small studios and agencies, publishers, freelance professionals, and anyone who needs court-ready proof of original authorship. We have separate dedicated guides for each format β see Solutions in the footer.
Does Ecopyright work in my country? +
Yes. Ecopyright certificates are recognized in all 179 signatory countries of the Berne Convention β which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, TΓΌrkiye, Canada, Australia, India, Brazil, Japan, and almost every other country in the world.
How long does it take to sign up? +
Around 60 seconds. Email + password, or one-tap with Google / Apple. You can register your first work within a minute of confirming your email.
Do I need to give a credit card to start? +
No. You receive 5 free certificate tokens on signup β enough to register 5 works at no cost. You only need to add a payment method when you decide to subscribe or buy additional tokens.
What languages does Ecopyright support? +
Our service interface and certificates are available in English. Customer support is provided in English and Turkish. Your work itself can be in any language β the certificate metadata captures the file as-is.
Pricing & billing
How payment works.
How much does Ecopyright cost? +
A flat $49/year membership. After that, each certificate costs $1 β only when you register a work. 5 free tokens included on signup. See the full pricing page for currency conversions and bulk discount tiers.
What are certificate tokens? +
A token is the unit you spend to register one work. One token = one certificate. Each certificate can include up to 5 files (or 10 on Professional), totaling up to 500 MB (or 5 GB on Professional).
Do tokens expire? +
No β as long as your subscription is active, unused tokens roll forward year after year indefinitely. Buy 100 tokens, use 12 in year one, keep 88 for year two β no loss.
What happens if I run out of tokens? +
Just buy more from your dashboard. $1 each, pay-as-you-go. Or buy in bulk: 50 tokens for $40 (20% off) or 200 tokens for $140 (30% off). No upgrade needed.
Can I get a refund? +
Yes β we offer a 14-day, no-questions-asked money-back guarantee on your annual membership. Even if you've already used tokens, we'll refund the full $49. Your existing certificates remain valid forever.
Are there hidden fees? +
No. The $49 annual membership is the only mandatory charge. Token purchases are optional and explicit. No setup fees, no per-month charges, no surprise add-ons.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime? +
Yes β one-click cancellation from your dashboard. Your account stays active until the end of the current billing period. Your existing certificates remain valid forever even after cancellation.
Do you offer bulk discounts for studios or agencies? +
Yes. Standard bulk packs are 50 tokens for $40 (20% off) and 200 tokens for $140 (30% off). For larger volumes or team accounts, contact sales@ecopyright.io for custom enterprise pricing.
Certificates
What a certificate is β and isn't.
What information does a certificate contain? +
Author name(s), work title, registration date and time (UTC), unique reference number, file name(s), SHA-256 file hash, file metadata (where extractable), and a public blockchain timestamp anchor.
How is this different from a US Copyright Office registration? +
A US Copyright Office registration is an official government registration ($45-$65, weeks to process, US-specific). Ecopyright is independent third-party witnessing of authorship and date β instant, $1, recognized in 179 countries. Many creators use both: Ecopyright immediately for the timestamp, then the US Copyright Office for full statutory damages if they're US-based and need to litigate.
Is the certificate valid as evidence in court? +
Yes. Ecopyright certificates have been used as evidence in copyright disputes around the world. The certificate proves three things that a court needs: who you are, what the work was, and when it existed. The blockchain timestamp makes it tamper-evident, which strengthens the evidentiary value.
Which countries recognize the certificate? +
All 179 signatory countries of the Berne Convention recognize copyright created in member states. This includes the US, EU, UK, TΓΌrkiye, Canada, Australia, India, Brazil, Japan, China, and most of the world. See /copyright-law for the full list.
Can I customize the certificate (logo, watermark)? +
Standard certificates carry the Ecopyright header and your information. For agencies and enterprises, we offer white-label certificates β co-branded with your logo and color scheme. Contact sales@ecopyright.io.
How do I download my certificate? +
From your dashboard, click any registered work and choose "Download PDF". You can also access a public verification URL that anyone can use to see the certificate without logging in.
What if I lose my certificate file? +
You can't lose it β it's always available in your account dashboard, plus we keep backups (daily, weekly, monthly). Re-download anytime, share the verification URL anytime. Certificates do not expire.
Can I edit a certificate after registering? +
No, and that's the point β the moment of registration is locked in by both your account record and the blockchain. If you upload a new version of the same work, register it as V2 using version tracking β the original V1 stays unchanged.
Does the certificate expire? +
No. Once registered, your certificate is valid forever. Even if you cancel your Ecopyright subscription, the certificate remains in our records and the blockchain anchor remains independently verifiable.
File uploads
What you can upload, how.
What file types are accepted? +
Almost everything except executables (.exe, .bat, .sh, .php, .py, .js). Common accepted formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, EPUB, MOBI, RTF, TXT, MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, MP4, MOV, MKV, JPG, PNG, TIFF, PSD, AI, SVG, ZIP, RAR, source code archives, and many more.
What's the maximum file size? +
Up to 500 MB per file on standard accounts, or up to 5 GB per file on Professional accounts. Each certificate can hold up to 5 files (or 10 on Professional) totaling the same maximum.
Can I upload an entire folder? +
Bulk and folder upload is available on Professional accounts. Standard accounts can compress folders into a ZIP and upload the ZIP as a single file β same protection, one token.
Can I send my file by email? +
Yes β email your file as an attachment to register@ecopyright.io from the address registered on your Ecopyright account. You'll receive a certificate confirmation within minutes.
Can I copyright a draft, not a final version? +
Yes β drafts are still original creative work. Many writers, songwriters, and designers register multiple draft versions to establish a clear authorship chain. Use version tracking to link drafts.
How do I add multiple authors? +
During upload, click "Add joint copyright holder" and enter each co-author's name. Free, unlimited. All names appear on the certificate.
Verification & sharing
Proving the certificate is real.
How does verification work? +
Anyone can verify a certificate by going to ecopyright.io/verify and entering the reference number or pasting the public verification URL. Our system retrieves the record and independently confirms the blockchain anchor. Result in 1-2 seconds.
Does the verifier need an Ecopyright account? +
No. Verification is completely anonymous, free, and unlimited. No login, no email, no captcha.
Can I share my certificate with a client or platform? +
Yes β every certificate has a unique public URL. Share it in emails, contracts, DMCA notices, or Amazon dispute forms. Anyone who clicks sees the full verification card.
How long is the verification URL valid? +
Forever. The URL never changes and never expires, even if you cancel your subscription.
What does "blockchain confirmed" mean? +
After registration, your file hash + timestamp is anchored to a public blockchain (typically Bitcoin or Ethereum). Once confirmed (usually within an hour), the record becomes tamper-evident β even Ecopyright cannot alter the proof retroactively.
Legal & disputes
Your rights, the law, and what to do.
Doesn't copyright happen automatically when I create something? +
Yes β copyright is automatic in all Berne Convention countries. But ownership and proof are two different things. In a dispute, the question becomes "Can you prove you created this on this date?" Ecopyright is exactly that proof.
Is this an official government registration? +
No. Ecopyright is an independent third-party witnessing service, not a government registry. We do not claim to issue statutory copyright registrations. We provide tamper-evident evidence of authorship and date, recognized in courts under the Berne Convention.
Can I use my certificate in a lawsuit? +
Yes. Ecopyright certificates have been used as evidence in copyright disputes globally. The certificate, especially with its blockchain anchor, serves as strong third-party witnessing of when and by whom a work was created.
What's a DMCA takedown? Do you handle it? +
DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) is the US law that lets you require online platforms to remove infringing content. We provide a pre-drafted DMCA takedown letter template (free), and our certificate is exactly the proof the platforms ask for. We don't file on your behalf, but we make filing trivial.
Do you provide a lawyer if I get sued? +
We are not a law firm. However, we provide free legal letter templates (DMCA, Cease & Desist, NDA), a free court-witness affidavit (1 per year), and our customer support team has copyright specialists who can guide you on next steps. For litigation, you'll need to hire your own attorney.
What if someone copies my work despite this? +
You have multiple options: (1) Use our DMCA template to demand removal from platforms, (2) Use our Cease & Desist template for direct communication, (3) Request our free court-witness affidavit for formal proceedings, (4) Engage a lawyer with your certificate as primary evidence.
What is a court-witness affidavit? +
A sworn statement, signed and notarized by an Ecopyright officer, confirming the specific details of your registration: when it occurred, what file was registered, what hash, what blockchain block. Usable in court as third-party witness testimony. Free once per year per account, $99 for additional within a year.
Security & privacy
How your work is protected (the file itself, not just the rights).
Are my uploaded files secure? +
Yes. Files are encrypted in transit (256-bit SSL) and at rest. Stored on geographically distributed servers with daily, weekly, and monthly backups. Access is restricted to your account; even our staff cannot open your files without your written permission.
Who can see my work? +
Only you. Files are never shared with third parties. Verification only reveals metadata (author, title, date, hash) β not the file content itself. If someone wants the actual file, you decide whether to send it.
Are you GDPR / KVKK compliant? +
Yes. Ecopyright complies with the EU's GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and TΓΌrkiye's KVKK (Personal Data Protection Law). You can export or delete your account data at any time from the dashboard. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can someone reverse-engineer my file from the SHA-256 hash? +
No. SHA-256 is a one-way cryptographic function. The hash reveals nothing about the file's contents β only confirms whether a given file matches the registered hash. This is why public verification is safe even for confidential works.
Do you support two-factor authentication (2FA)? +
Yes. Time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) via Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, or any standard authenticator app. Strongly recommended for accounts holding valuable works.
Account management
Settings, transfers, cancellations.
How do I change my password? +
Account β Settings β Security β Change Password. You can also enable 2FA, manage trusted devices, and view recent login activity from the same page.
How do I delete my account? +
Account β Settings β Danger Zone β Delete Account. We'll ask for password confirmation and 2FA (if enabled). Your data is permanently deleted after a 30-day grace period. Note: existing certificates remain accessible via their public URLs even after account deletion.
Can I transfer my certificates to another account? +
Yes. Contact support with both account emails β we verify ownership and migrate certificates. Common case: transferring from a personal account to a company account, or between team members.
What happens to my certificates after I cancel? +
They remain valid forever and remain accessible via their public verification URLs. You lose access to the upload feature and your dashboard, but the certificate itself is permanent.
Can I have multiple Ecopyright accounts? +
Yes, multiple personal accounts are allowed. For shared team / company use, we recommend a single team account (Professional plan) instead β easier billing, shared tokens, role-based access.
Business, API & teams
For agencies, studios, publishers and software teams.
Do you offer team accounts? +
Yes, on the Professional plan. Multi-user workspaces with shared token pools, role-based access (admin / member), and consolidated billing.
Is there an API? +
Yes. REST API + webhooks available on Professional. Integrate Ecopyright into your CMS, asset management system, or CI/CD pipeline. Full developer docs at docs.ecopyright.io.
Do you offer enterprise pricing? +
Yes. For 25+ users, custom contracts, on-premise deployment, SSO/SAML, dedicated support, or volume token pricing, contact sales@ecopyright.io.
Do you offer white-label certificates? +
Yes, on enterprise plans. Certificates carry your agency's logo and color scheme instead of the Ecopyright brand. Useful for agencies offering copyright registration to their clients as part of a larger service.
Discounts for non-profits or education? +
Yes β 30% off the annual membership for verified educational institutions and registered non-profits. Email sales@ecopyright.io with verification documents.
