Why it matters

Why your logo needs a copyright certificate

Trademark registration is slow, expensive and country-specific. Copyright is automatic, global, and recognized immediately — but only if you can prove you created the design first. Ecopyright gives you that proof in 30 seconds, before you even apply for a trademark.

Amazon counterfeiting

Your private-label logo appears on cheap knockoffs within weeks of launch. Without prior copyright proof, Amazon's Brand Registry leaves you fighting case-by-case.

Etsy / Redbubble copycats

Print-on-demand platforms are flooded with rip-offs. A copyright certificate is the fastest way to file successful IP infringement reports.

Domain & social media squatting

Brand-similar accounts and domains pop up overnight. Copyright on the logo backs your claim to take them down.

Designer-client disputes

You designed a logo, the client didn't pay, the client used it anyway. Your dated certificate proves authorship — case closed.

"One of my products was being counterfeited and sold on a major e-commerce platform. Despite holding a UK patent, I couldn't stop the counterfeiters. With Ecopyright registered, my product was promptly removed."

FAQ

Common questions about logos & brand assets

Should I copyright my logo or trademark it? +

Both — they protect different things. Copyright protects the artistic expression (the design itself) and is automatic worldwide. Trademark protects the commercial use in a specific country and class of goods. Start with copyright (instant, $1) before you start paying for trademark applications.

I designed this logo for a client. Who should register it? +

Depends on your contract. If you transferred copyright in the design agreement, the client should register. If you retained copyright (typical for licensed work), you should register and they should have a usage license. Either way, registering early avoids "he said / she said" later.

Can I copyright a logo I haven't finalized yet? +

Yes. Register draft versions during the design process — they're only $1 each. Version tracking lets you link V1 → V2 → final. Useful for designer-client billing disputes about who suggested which idea.

What about my brand colors and fonts? +

Colors and typefaces aren't copyrightable individually, but a complete brand system document (style guide PDF) is. Register the guide as a single copyright — covers all your brand elements in one shot.

Will the certificate help with Amazon Brand Registry? +

Yes. While Brand Registry requires a trademark, when a counterfeiter does appear, the copyright certificate is the proof of original authorship Amazon's IP team needs to take action quickly.
